Imaging Liver Development/Remodeling in the See-Through Medaka Fish

چکیده
Introduction One major function of the livers of fishes, essential for life, is the metabolism of xenobiotics, rendering lipophilic compounds water soluble and more easily excreted. This function is in turn linked to the formation and excretion of bile. Linked hepatocytic and biliary epithelial function in fishes involves hepatic tubules [1-3]. In these, hepatocytes are clustered about an axis of the biliary system. This pattern is analogous to that of an exocrine gland and is the adult phenotype for amphibians, birds, reptiles, and fishes [3].

The see-through medaka: a fish model that is transparent throughout life.
The see-through medaka is a vertebrate model with a transparent body in the adult stage, as well as during the embryonic stages, that was generated from a small laboratory fish, medaka (Oryzias latipes). In this fish model, most of the pigments are genetically removed from the entire body by a combination of recessive alleles at four loci. The main internal organs, namely, heart, spleen, blood ...
متن کاملProtective response of the Ah receptor to ANIT-induced biliary epithelial cell toxicity in see-through medaka.
The adaptive role of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (Ah receptor or AHR) in protecting against disease-related conditions remains unclear in nonmammalian models, particularly teleosts. Therefore, this study focused on the potential role of AHR in response to biliary epithelial cell toxicity and hepatobiliary alteration in medaka. See-through medaka (STII strain) were exposed for 96 h using the b...
متن کاملIn vivo Magnetic Resonance Microscopy and Hypothermic Anaesthesia of a Disease Model in Medaka
In medical and pharmacological research, various human disease models in small fish, such as medaka (Oryzias latipes), have been created. To investigate these disease models noninvasively, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is suitable because these small fish are no longer transparent as adults. However, their small body size requires a high spatial resolution, and a water pool should be avoided...
متن کاملDevelopment of vitellogenin assay for endocrine disrupters using medaka (Oryzias latipes).
An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed for the detection of the egg yolk precursor vitellogenin (VTG) in the liver of medaka (Oryzias latipes) and was employed to establish an in vivo testing system for estrogen and estrogenic compounds using liver homogenates. Results of 3-month-old fish exposed to three reference chemicals (ethynylestradiol, methyltestosterone and flutamid...
متن کاملFish full life-cycle testing for androgen methyltestosterone on medaka (Oryzias latipes).
Abstract-We studied the chronic effects of methyltestosterone (MT) on reproductive status of medaka (Oryzias latipes) over two generations under continuous exposure to verify the applicability of the fish full life-cycle test (FFLC) for this androgen with this species. The exposure of parental (F0) medaka to MT was begun on embryos within 12 h postfertilization and continued for up to 101 d; as...
